I've been roasting coffee for 12 years in rigs I've always built myself. It is one of the great passions in my life. I finally took the leap to a commercial roaster because it could do the one thing I still really needed: manage roast profiles and repeat them using a laptop and software. It was quite a journey just to get it into my commercial building because I couldn't get the size I needed in the U.S. Everything I could find was a small sample roaster, or large-to-really large commercial ones. So I did the homework, went to the manufacturer directly, dealt with language barriers, negotiations, shipping, and customs. So much paperwork with so many different people. All quite the learning experience. It took about 4 months total, but I couldn't be happier. I've had the best batches of Chuck Roast and can do 5 pounds at a time now.
